Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is the flagship facility of Carolinas HealthCare System. As one of North Carolina's largest hospitals, it serves as the regional referral center for western North Carolina. In addition, a significant number of patients come from South Carolina and all over the Southeast. CMC opened in 1940 and has now expanded to include 777 beds.
