SAYREVILLE, N.J. –- For nearly 11 years, Michael and Patti Dene have been living in Long Beach, California, enjoying the sun, surf and lifestyle of the Golden State.
But with their two daughters and grandchildren living on the eastcoast in Staten Island and Valhalla, N.Y., the Denes, former Staten Islanders themselves, decided it was time to return home.
Wanting a housing situation that put them close to their family, as well as offered them the flexibility and peace-of-mind to travel without worrying about the usual maintenance associated with home ownership, the Denes found what they were looking for at Spinnaker Pointe, a new active adult community in Sayreville, N.J.
"We weren't necessarily looking for an adult community, but Spinnaker Pointe offered us the kind of turn-key, convenient lifestyle we wanted," said Michael, who noted that the California boating community the couple currently resides in is ironically named Spinnaker Bay.
"We liked the fact that Spinnaker Pointe is a small, intimate community that will live like a true neighborhood environment with manageable traffic flow, yet also offers great recreational amenities like the clubhouse and swimming pool. I exercise about four days a week at a gym so I like the convenience of being able to continue that right at home."
The Denes, who first heard about Spinnaker Pointe prior to its official opening and waited for sales to begin, selected the community's expansive Del Mar design.
"We just thought the layout was terrific," explains Michael. "I like how the kitchen, den and dining room all serve as a gathering place, and love having the third bedroom on the other side of the house which I plan on using as a home office."
The Denes are scheduled to move into their new home this December.
"With the waterside location and adjacent marina, we may just have to purchase a new boat when we get there," Michael says with a laugh.
Spinnaker Pointe's 103 ranch-style homes are currently pre-construction priced from the high-$200,000s. The community's resort-like lifestyle stems from its convenient waterside location and its 4,000 square-foot lifestyle and recreation center -– an unusually large recreational amenity for a community of this size. Included is a billiards room, fireside lounge, business center, kitchenette, card room, multi-purpose room, state-of-the-art fitness center, grand ballroom and covered rear porch overlooking the large, heated, outdoor pool and sun deck.
Situated near the Garden State Parkway, the community is within short proximity to the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike, I-287, and Routes 9, 35, 440, 1 and 18. Commuters also have a variety of mass transit options to choose from, including New Jersey Transit service from the South Amboy Station into Penn Station, water ferry service to lower Manhattan, and a nearby park and ride lot.
Spinnaker Pointe offers six distinctive designs with either two bedrooms, two bedrooms plus dens or three bedrooms, up to 3,000 square feet of well-designed living space and two-car garages. Each residence boasts a wide array of luxury features and appointments.
"Buyers will also visit Matzel and Mumford's Design Center to select from a host of decorator options to personalize their homes," notes Richard Selikoff, Matzel and Mumford's Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
